Another field of over 100 and yes I was the only person on the starting line with a camelback. I was laughing at myself as I lined up next to two Jetfuel guys and a Jittery Joe's racer, they looked at me and then at my camelback, I felt like a fred. The race was 114 miles with a 25 mph wind. I sat in for most of the race. A group of 15 got away and managed to put 3 minutes on the field, I was sure the race was over because because the race turned very negative. I just sat, enjoying the easy ride. With forty miles to go all hell broke loose and the race came back together. Two groups of two went up the road and seven chased, the field shut down and I took off. One by one I caught the group of seven as they blew up...lack of water? Four were up the road and I was in a group of 4 and I won the sprint for fifth place. I was very happy because at one point I thought the race was gone. My two places put me in 2nd for the omnium. The first race of the year is always a bit nerve racking, so I am glad I have this under my belt.
